Sinus Augmentation Course

The three-day sinus augmentation cadaver course has been run for the last four years and takes place at the Royal College of Surgeons in London and Dr Feran’s private practice in Wimpole Street.

Conceived of by Dr Koray Feran and Prof Cemal Ucer who is past-president of the ADI UK and featuring guest lecturers Prof Vishy Mahadevan PhD FRCS(Ed) FRCS), Professor of Surgical Anatomy at the Royal College of surgeons and Mr Abbad Toma FRCS(ed) FRCS (ORL), consultant ENT and facial plastic surgeon at St Georges and Kingston Hospital NHS trusts.  

The course, run in conjunction with Geistlich UK, is a comprehensive theoretical and practical introduction to sinus augmentation surgery for implant surgeons. The course consists of a day of lectures, a day of hands-on surgical training on sinus and other bone and soft tissue augmentation techniques on fresh frozen cadaver heads in the prestigious Wolfson surgical suite at the Royal College and an observation day of live surgery at Dr Feran’s practice in Wimpole Street. The course covers:

  • Aetiology of bone loss
  • Surgical anatomy of the maxillary sinus
  • Indications for sinus augmentation and grafting and restorative considerations
  • Evidence base for maxillary sinus grafting procedures
  • Closed and open sinus lift procedures
  • Regenerative materials, science, handling, equipment and instrumentation
  • Intra-oral bone harvesting techniques
  • Prevention and management of complications
  • Failure and its management
  • Informed consent process
  • Future of maxillary sinus grafting: tissue engineering
  • Live surgery on two sinuses
